I like this idea, mostly because it's trans friendly. Not just transsexual friendly, but friendly to all transgender people, even those who are non-gender-binary. This would mean that anyone who wants a room can be in a comfortable situation. Some people are more comfortable living with their own gender, others with a gender that's not their own, and to some, it honestly doesn't matter. Also, I think there should be an option for same-gender dorms (instead of same sex, because why does it matter what genitalia a person possesses?) because some people want to live with only the same gender. But this would probably leave out not transsexuals, but genderqueers and the like. And if it didn't, would all genderqueers be together, or would androgynes, neutrois, and bigendered folk (etc.) all be separate? If a student could choose eir roommate, this problem would be completely solved. Yes, couples could live together, but they could also get an apartment and do the same. Best friends of opposite sexes (regardless of gender) could room together, and intersex people wouldn't be or feel left out. This leaves out no one. I like it. I hope that whatever college I go to in the future will have gender-neutral dorms, as I am genderqueer.
