Web Update: November 7, 2008 — Coming at the heels of a historic victory, our friends at Feministing have noted that the Obama-Biden transition project has announced a non-discrimination policy that includes “gender identity.” Currently, the Federal Government does not prohibit discrimination based upon gender identity. The Federal government remains the largest employer in the country with over 2.7 million civilian employees.

Last year, NSGC was one of the first national organizations to join United ENDA, a coalition of groups committed to federal non-discrimination legislation that includes gender-identity and expression alongside sexual orientation. As a grassroots, student-led organization, we also encourage students and administrators to establish inclusive non-discrimination policies at their institutions—affirming the rights of all students, faculty, and staff.
