Media Update: The National Student Genderblind Campaign was featured in a May 2, 2008 Associated Press article on gender-neutral housing. The article featured Erik Youngdahl and Michelle Garcia of Weslyan University and Samantha Friedman and Grey Caspro of Oberlin College. Both campuses allow members of different genders to share the same room together. “It ultimately comes down to finding someone that you feel is compatible with you [...] students aren’t doing this to make a point. They’re not doing this to upset their parents. It’s really for practical reasons,” said Jeffrey Chang, NSGC co-founder. The AP article was circulated in the largest media markets, spanning CNN, USA Today, International Herald Tribune, Yahoo! News, and as far away places as Nepal, India, and South Africa. CNN.com reported that the article was the number one article viewed on May 3rd.
